Why The Fig Room Might Not Be Right for Your Event
Is The Fig Room Right for Your Event? 6 Reasons it Might Not Be.
We’d love to tell you The Fig Room is the perfect venue for everyone.
It isn’t.
The Fig Room was created to offer something a little different from the traditional event venue: a beautiful, intimate space where you can bring your own vision to life without paying for a long list of services you may not want or need.
For the right event, that freedom is exactly the appeal.
For others? A different venue may genuinely be a better fit.
If you’re considering The Fig Room for your wedding, shower, birthday, celebration of life, or other gathering, here are a few reasons we might not be the venue for you.
1. You want someone to manage your event for you
The Fig Room is a DIY event venue. When you rent the space, it’s yours for your reserved time.
We don’t have a venue coordinator hovering in the background, directing vendors, keeping your timeline moving, or telling you when it’s time to cut the cake.
A lot of our guests love this. They don't need or want a full-service venue experience. They want a beautiful space, the essentials already there, and the freedom to make the event their own.
But if you want someone managing all of those details on event day, you’ll want to hire a planner or coordinator, or choose a full-service venue where that service is built into the experience.
2. You don't want to do any setup or breakdown
One of the reasons we can keep The Fig Room affordable is that we don't bundle staffing and event services into every rental.
Your rental includes the venue along with many of the basics you need to host an event, including tables and chairs, dinnerware and glassware. But you, or the vendors you hire, are responsible for setting up the space for your event, removing all personal decorations, and breakdown tables afterward.
If your ideal event day involves arriving to a completely finished room and walking away at the end of the night without thinking about cleanup, that's absolutely possible. We do offer breakdown and decoration removal as an additional fee at the end of your event.
If you want those services automatically included in your venue rental, a full-service venue will probably be a better fit.
3. You're planning a large event
We love small events.
In fact, we designed The Fig Room specifically for them.
Our maximum capacity is 49 guests (Fire Marshalls orders)That makes the space wonderful for intimate weddings, bridal and baby showers, milestone birthdays, family celebrations, workshops and other gatherings where you actually want the room to feel warm and connected.
But 49 is our limit.
If you're building a guest list of 75, 100 or 150 people and hoping you can somehow make the space work, we're going to tell you no.
There are plenty of larger venues in Jacksonville that will serve you much better.
4. You're looking for a traditional ballroom experience
If your vision includes soaring ceilings, a huge dance floor, chandeliers, banquet staff and a grand ballroom, The Fig Room is probably not what you're picturing.
We're a charming cottage in Jacksonville Beach.
The space is intimate, relaxed and intentionally less formal than a traditional wedding or banquet venue. We have a porch, multiple rooms, a kitchen and bar area, and we're just a block from the beach. While you can certainly dance, and we’ve hosted multiple parties with guests that do, space is limited.
That's part of the charm, but it isn't everyone's style.
If you walk into The Fig Room hoping it will feel like a hotel ballroom, country club or large wedding venue, you'll probably be disappointed.
5. You want a venue that requires you to use its vendors
This one might sound like a strange reason not to choose us, but some people actually prefer the simplicity of an all-inclusive package. At The Fig Room, you have a lot of freedom.
You can choose your own caterer. Bring in the vendors you want. Decorate the space to fit your event. Or keep things incredibly simple. However, that freedom also means there are decisions to make.
If you'd rather select Package A, choose your entrée and have the venue handle everything else, an all-inclusive venue may be worth the additional cost.
6. You don't want to make any decisions
This is probably the biggest distinction.
The Fig Room works especially well for people who like having choices. Maybe you're hosting a baby shower and want to bring in brunch from your favorite restaurant. Maybe you're planning a small wedding and would rather spend your budget on an incredible photographer and dinner than on a traditional wedding package. Maybe you're celebrating a 50th birthday and simply want a beautiful place where your family can gather.
You don't have to be particularly crafty or "DIY" everything yourself. You can hire a planner, caterer, decorator, bartender or other professionals to do as much as you'd like.
But you get to decide.
For some people, that's freeing.
For others, it's one more thing to manage.
Knowing which camp you're in can help you choose the right venue.
So, who is The Fig Room for?
The Fig Room tends to be a great fit for someone planning a smaller event who wants a beautiful space without paying for a traditional full-service venue.
You value flexibility.
You'd like to choose your own vendors.
You want the freedom to make the event as simple or elaborate as you'd like.
And you'd rather spend your event budget on the things that matter to you instead of paying for services simply because they're bundled into your venue rental.
That's exactly why we created The Fig Room.
We don't want to be the right venue for every event in Jacksonville.
We want to be the right venue for the people who love what we offer.
And sometimes the best way to figure that out is to be clear about what we don't.
